What do we know about falls?

1 out of 3 individuals over the age of 65 fall each year

1 out 2 individuals over the age of 80 fall each year

6 out of 10 will fall again

75% of falls occur around the home often during routine activities

Falls don’t “just happen”. Often, more than one underlying cause or risk factor is involved in a fall. It’s a combination of things coming together.

Falls are not a natural part of aging! But they are:

  • Common
  • Predictable
  • largely Preventable

A Matter of Balance emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

 view falls as controllable

 set goals for increasing activity

 make changes to reduce fall risks at home

 exercise to increase strength and balance

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

 anyone concerned about falls

 anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength

 anyone who has fallen in the past
